Collaboration between Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill is at the heart of the Robertson Scholars Program. We strongly believe that the practice and habits of collaboration are essential for success in our increasingly complex and interdependent world. We seek to demonstrate this by supporting existing collaborations and supporting new collaborations between these two campuses. And we seek to spread the benefits of collaboration beyond Robertson Scholars themselves, to all of the students, faculty and staff of both campuses. As on-going collaborations have already shown, when we bring together one of the nation's best private universities with the one of the nation's best public universities, we create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. By doing so, we seek to become a national model for inter-institutional collaboration in higher education.
The Robertson Program strives to promote collaboration between the two universities in three primary ways: through the undergraduate Scholars Program, which promotes student interaction in and outside of the classroom; through the Robertson Collaboration Fund, which awards grants to joint projects between students, faculty, and staff at the two universities; and through the Robertson Express Bus, which allows for easy transportation between the two campuses.
The Robertson Scholars Program is pleased to announce it is accepting grant proposals for its collaboration fund. The Robertson Scholars Collaboration Fund has been instituted to fund projects that have the potential to initiate or enhance collaborative projects between Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. All faculty, staff and students on both campuses are eligible to apply. One-year grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded.
Applications for 2008-09 Collaboration Fund grants may be submitted at two different times:
Funds may be requested for any costs associated with the proposed project, except salaries. Applications must clearly identify the primary contact and the partner on the sister campus. Only the primary contact person can submit charges for reimbursement and all monies must be expended from that university. All funds must be expended by June 1, 2009 and a final report is due on that date.
Forms may be picked up at the Robertson Scholars Program office, Room 023, Johnson Center for Undergraduate Excellence at Graham Memorial at UNC or the Call for Proposals and the Coversheet and can be downloaded here, as well as the Expenditure Form
for reimbursement.
